The 8th of March is the International Woman’s day. It is the day we commemorate the fight for equal women rights in society.
Do we really know the origin for this international celebration?
It all started in March 8th 1857 when thousands of women garment workers marched the street of New York protesting against their working conditions.
The march was re-enacted for years, but in 1911 the fire of the Triangle Shirtwaist Co. factory of New York marked a turning point. The cause of the fire was the disposal of an unextinguished cigarette butt, and many workers could not escape from the burning building because the doors to the stairwells and exits were locked, a then-common practice to prevent workers from taking unauthorized breaks and to reduce theft.
What happens on this day?
Every March 8th, we pay tribute to those women workers who made history with their fight for safer and more equal working conditions for everyone.
The commemoration of International Women’s Day today is an international event. Celebration events range from conferences and seminars, to protests, strikes or popular races and marches.
Our factory: the importance of women in ZD
The majority of workers in our different ZD factories are women. March 8th is our turn to congratulate them for their hard work and their enthusiasm in designing the best garments, garments with no defects that meet our clients’ most demanding needs.
International woman’s day is not a day to be celebrated with flowers or chocolates; it is the day to honor all those working women who for more than one hundred years have been working while fighting for their rights and their fair place in society.
And yes, the celebration is internationally marked for one specific day, like mother’s day, but they should be honored and their effort acknowledge every day of the year.
From ZD Zero Defects, we want to congratulate them: Thanks, you are wonderful and unique!
